Sketchbook

I'm sorry to say I haven't been doing much studio work this term, as you can probably tell by the amount of life drawing I've posted. This is because I've been writing my dissertation, but I handed that in today so hopefully I can now get back to real life! :) Here are some recent sketches.

Life Drawing - Charlotte

I don't know for sure that her name is Charlotte but I thought that's what it was. These were all done in 5 mins or 20 mins.

More Life Drawing With Francis

Each of these was 5 mins except for the last image which was 20. I really like drawing Francis, he's seriously muscular and quite dynamic with some of his poses, which also makes him hard to draw.

Life Drawing - Colin with Clothes

They were 45 mins each, someone requested that Colin be clothed and hence no nakedness again this tuesday evening. Personally, I feel like it is more difficult to draw people with clothes on so it was good practice.

Sketchbook: print idea

I planned a print of Edinburgh Castle and Princes. St. Gardens but I've rejected this version of it because the shape is too similar to the Princes. St. Gardens/ Waverly print I did earlier this year. Still working on the finished thing...

sketchbook

I spent the last two weeks working almost non stop on my dissertation, so afterwards I went out for a little R&R. I really empathized with the guy asleep in the chair.

Life Drawing - Harvey

Our life model didn't show up to class today, so my tutor Harvey had to pose for us instead. So no naked people on my blog this week, sorry, but here is Harvey looking tired and Harvey ala Picasso. I had a lot of fun making the second image! I bought these great new coloured pencils recently and I love them, they are so smooth to draw with.

Week Four - Acoustic Ranching Editorial

I read an article called "How do you train a fish?" about possible solutions to the ecologically unfriendly fish farming methods in use at the moment. You can read it here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8283701.stm

Its basically about how you can train sea bass to respond to a frequency played in the water to make them swim to a certain point. I thought the robotic shark bit was pretty interesting too.

Psychedelic Colin (Life Drawing)

We had life drawing today, so I took my coloured pencils along and had some fun. The first image was four 10 minute drawings, and the second was 55 mins. Colin has a quizzical eyebrow and I think he looks like a pirate.

Week Two - The Fox Hunt

Its week 2 of uni and I have been working on a screen print based on an article about where town and country cultures clash. Fox hunting was mentioned, so I went with that. The colours are much brighter on the actual print, I took this photo at night so its come out a bit dark.

AboutLife Cafe/ Organic Market

I was recently in Sydney visiting my friend Jess B and we did a bit of sketching together. This one was an organic supermarket/ cafe that sold amazing looking cakes. I really enjoyed drawing the shopping baskets. You can see Jess's version here.

Illustration Friday - Wrapped

I didn't manage to put this one up in time for the deadline because for the last MONTH my blog hasn't been working. It was very frustrating, but here we go.

Sakae Sushi, Wheelock Place, Orchard Road

I mucked up a bit with the forced perspective but I like how it turned out anyway.

Princes St. Print - Finished at last!

I have finally, FINALLY finished the plan for a screen print of Princes St, which will be A2 in size before mounting. Drawing all those little leaves got really frustrating but I think it was worth it. When I get back to Edinburgh I'll be able to print it up. Because my friend Jess B likes to see work in stages, that's how I've posted it up.

Scottish Parliament

An image I did for an editorial article about how the Scottish Parliament does not represent the diversity of Scotland.

Illustration Friday - Unfold

I have every intention of making this pop up, I just didn't finish it in time for the friday deadline. I've been working a lot this week at the Edinburgh College of Art Degree Show, but I can always do it later.

Procrastination

I have a list of work I should be doing and I've been doodling instead. :)

Illustration Friday - Adapt

I really don't know what is happening in this image. I was thinking about 'adapt', about being different people in different situations, and changing to suit a situation or changing the situation to suit you. I picked up my pens and this came out.

Illustration Friday - Impossible

I asked my friend Lindsay L what she thought of for the theme "impossible" and she said, "It is impossible to lick your own elbow".

View Of Arthur's Seat From The Meadows

This is a screen print I've made of Arthur's Seat. It's a small edition of 10 and will be sold in Just Scottish Gallery on the Mound, Edinburgh. If you are interested in purchasing one please contact me :) It is A3 size before mounting.

The Selfish Giant Poster

I did this for a project where we had to design a poster for a theatre production of "The Selfish Giant" by Oscar Wilde. It's A2 sized screen print. I was looking at 1950's style illustration for the inspiration.

Work in progress

I'm getting blogger's guilt because I haven't posted in a long time, so I thought I'd put up some works in progress. These images are for a children's story book I've written about a marmoset who goes exploring and gets into a heap of trouble. They're not finished yet, but when they are I'll post the final images.
In the toucan image I forgot to add stripes on the marmoset's tail before I took the photo, but they are there now (on the original).
